Because they do not have moving parts, imager readers have a very low failure rate and are very durable.   Depending on their nature, linear imagers can read 1D, while the area imagers can read two-dimensional or 2D codes.   They can be connected to various equipment such as personal computers, computer terminals, portable terminals, cash registers, etc., through many interfaces such as USB, Keyboard Wedge, RS-232 or IBMPOS 46XX Systems.
